Employment matters concerning persons with Down syndrome

Bearing in mind the complex situation we are facing during the coronavirus crisis, the reinstatement of persons with Down Syndrome in their jobs can cause many doubts (especially concerning younger people who are beginning their professional careers), both for these individuals as well as for their families or their employers.
With the aim of clarifying and facilitating this process as much as possible, the Fundación Fernando Pombo and the lawyers from Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, in collaboration with the team of DOWN ESPAÑA, have prepared a comprehensive guide with informational content on the recommendations to follow under various circumstances. Furthermore, this publication may also serve as a reference point for employees that have decided to take a step toward including persons with Down syndrome in their companies, thereby contributing to the inclusion of this group in employment.
The publication is based on nine questions that address issues spanning from the vulnerability of persons with Down syndrome – there is no evidence to suggest that they are in a high risk group when it comes to vulnerability to COVID-19- to consequences that may arise if an employee with Down syndrome decides to not go to work due to fear of infection. All questions have been chosen taking into account the numerous queries received over the last few months via different channels, such as the social networks of DOWN ESPAÑA.
