The work addresses the current situation of research and prosecution in criminal proceedings, the guarantees of the investigation and the related legislative proposals to become standardised with European procedures. It gathers the lectures delivered at the “Criminal Investigations: investigative judge or supervisory judge?: The role of the public prosecutor” conference held in 2013 by the Fernando Pombo Foundation in the framework of the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) summer courses in Santander.
